Sneak Peek at the New Triumph Scrambler 400 ‘Tramontana’

Brace Yourself: The Latest Triumph Scrambler 400 X Variant Teased, Potentially Dropping Winter 2024

On social media, a tantalizing image of what looks to be a tough, off-road-focused Triumph Scrambler 400 X has appeared.

While the picture doesn’t reveal much, it clearly displays Triumph’s powerful 389cc, 49bhp “TR” series engine. Encircling it are the recognizable handlebar assembly, headlamp, and fuel tank. Furthermore, the frame seems to mimic the proven design of the existing Scrambler 400 X.

Now, let’s examine the background before writing this off as just attention-seeking digital scribbles. The fascinating message was shared by none other than Felipe Lopez, a former Triumph chassis development master. He is the genius behind the famous handling of every vehicle that has carried the Triumph seal in the past ten years. Interestingly, Felipe’s LinkedIn page now lists Tramontana Motorcycles as his employer, so we have to wonder if this tease is an official Triumph project or a venture under his new banner.

Felipe’s statement is vague and simply alludes to the impending advent of a new “Tramontana.” For Felipe, the word itself has great meaning, conjuring up the frigid breezes of the western Mediterranean. Remember Triumph’s last tribute, the Tiger 800 Tamontana, from the 2017 Panafrica Rally, when Felipe drove it to an incredible second place in the Maxitrail class? The foundation for the present Tiger 900 Rally Pro was laid by this same bike, which evolved into the 2018 Tiger 800 XCX.

Although there aren’t many specifics available about the new Scrambler variation, one thing is for sure: Felipe wouldn’t accept anything less than exceptional off-road ability if it goes under the Tramontana name.
