Indian Motorcycle is making waves in 2024 with a complete overhaul of their beloved Scout cruiser series. Rolling out to dealerships starting late May, the latest range replaces the tried-and-true 1133cc Scout family, which has held its ground since its debut at the 2014 Sturgis Rally.
The Scout name carries weight for Indian, having seen over 100,000 units sold in the past decade alone. This cruiser accounts for a whopping 40% of their sales, with an impressive 28% of Scout owners stepping into the world of riding for the first time.
“Scout stands tall as the quintessential American cruiser, synonymous with the Indian Motorcycle brand,” shared company President, Mike Dougherty. “While our current Scout lineup has won hearts worldwide, we’re thrilled to elevate it to new heights, catering to the diverse needs of our global riding community.”
The redesign leaves no stone unturned, featuring a brand-new 60-degree 1250cc DOHC liquid-cooled V-twin engine and a sturdy tubular steel chassis. This transformation births five exhilarating models: the 101 Scout, Scout Bobber, Sport Scout, Super Scout, and Scout Classic.
But that’s not all—Indian Motorcycle hints at an upcoming entry-level Scout Sixty, though details remain a mystery for now. The existing Scout Sixty boasts a smaller 999cc twin engine, generating around 78 horsepower, suggesting the new range might follow suit.
Let’s delve into what we do know. Each of the five Scout variants packs a Euro5+ compliant 1250cc V-twin, dubbed the ‘SpeedPlus 1250’ by Indian Motorcyle. Four models churn out an impressive 105.9 horsepower at 7250rpm, while the top-tier 101 Scout roars with 110 horsepower thanks to a unique tune.
Torque figures impress at 79.7lb.ft at 6300rpm across four models, with the 101 Scout edging slightly higher at 80.4lb.ft. These power-packed numbers place the new Scout squarely in competition with the likes of the £13,195 Triumph Bonneville Bobber and the £15,145 Harley-Davidson Sportster S.
Nestled within the frame—a structure now enabled by a compact radiator nestled between the front stanchions—is the roaring heart of the Scout. Drawing inspiration from the original Scouts of yesteryears, the tubular steel frame cascades elegantly towards the rear axle, offering a canvas for customization.
Speaking of customization, Indian Motorcycle caters to individual tastes with three trim levels: Standard, Limited, and Limited + Tech. The Standard tier includes essentials like ABS, LED lighting, and analog clocks. Level up to Limited for premium badging, cruise control, and traction control, along with three riding modes and a handy USB port.
For the ultimate Scout experience, Limited + Tech treats riders to a sleek 101mm touchscreen display featuring navigation, mobile connectivity, and keyless ignition. With over 100 accessories available across four collections—Commuter, Open Roads, Stealth, and Overnighter—riders can truly make their Scout their own.
Considering rider comfort, Indian Motorcycle keeps things accessible with the Bobber model flaunting a low 649mm seat height—over 100mm lower than the petite Honda MSX125 Grom. The remaining models sport a manageable 654mm seat height, perfect for a stable and secure stance.
In the suspension department, all but the 101 model boast 41mm conventional forks paired with adjustable piggyback shocks. Step up to the 101 Scout for the premium treatment—adjustable 43mm upside-down forks and fully customizable piggyback shocks at the rear.
